Personal Boundaries

This document outlines appropriate boundaries in programs and activities involving youth, and must be agreed to after viewing the training video.

Electronic Communication with Minors

As online interaction increases between personnel and youth due to the implementation of online learning tools, it is important that the correct policies and procedures are in place. Please follow the guidelines in the following documents:

Required Supervision Ratios

Below are the required supervision ratios for minors which have been provided by the American Camp Association

  • 5 years and younger: 1 staff member for each five overnight participants, and one staff member for every six day-time participants
  • 6- to 8-year-olds: 1 staff member for every six overnight participants, and one staff member for every 8 day-time participants
  • 9- to 14-year-olds: 1 staff member for every eight overnight participants, and one staff member for every 10 day-time participants
  • 15- to 18-year-olds: 1 staff member for every 10 overnight participants, and one staff member for every 12 day-time participants

Child Abuse Awareness

REPORTER CODE: EHPS-VP602

Programs that involve the participation of minors are required to provide specific training to their students, faculty, staff and volunteers. To ensure compliance, the Violence Prevention and Threat Management Program has developed this module to assist in identifying the basic warning signs of abuse and/or neglect of minors and their mandatory reporting requirements. This training was developed based on requirements under NC State Regulation 01.25.18: Programs that Involve the Participation of Minors.

Minors Regulation Training

REPORTER CODE: EHPS-YP100

This course provides the required training for individuals who provide supervision for the care, custody or control of minors in NC State-affiliated programs and activities in compliance with REG 01.25.18. This course will include information on child abuse identification and reporting.

Required Training for REG 01.25.18

The Office of Youth Programs and Compliance provides this required training per REG 01.25.18 for Programs and Activities that Involve the Participation of Minors.

This training applies to the vast scope of programs and activities with minors that occur through NC State University. It is designed to supplement the Program specific training necessary for your role. It should be used in conjunction with the Youth Program Coordinator Handbook which provides additional details for risk management and safety.
